Crank Forward Bikes

CRANK IT FORWARD.
RANS "CRANK FORWARD“ BIKES
Rans Crank Forward
lineup continues to refine and expand. These bikes fuse elements of
an upright bike with some of the recumbent. The result is an easy to ride,
laid back frame geometry that relieves hand
and wrist
pressure, and allows flat footed starts and stops.
Refining of the concept has produced
10 distinct bikes, 7 26/26 format, 3 700/700..
Here’s how the personalities break out:
Ti Rose
FUSION.
A straight tube aluminum frame, the most
laid back geometry for casual cruise. Dual 26”
wheels.

The
custom RANS poly spade seat is the outcome of
such body position design. Standard with a high density closed
cell foam seat cover (removes for washing).
Like all the relaxed geometry bikes, the
Fusion has impressive climb and cruise
speeds. To climb, simply pull on the bars! (See: Why
They Climb So Well!)

Seat position adjusts in tilt and height
with quick release
levers for fast set up and the perfect fit. Note scale
on the seat post, you know where you are, and it's great if you're sharing.
CF's are all built on a
top notch, TIG welded aluminum frame.

CRUZ

Curvy tubes add a neat style to the Cruz, built around the exact same
geometry as the Fusion. 26x1.5 tires and upscale components give the
Cruz its own flavor.

Shown with French canvas panniers and oak fenders for optimum style and
function.
Use the Cruz to hit the beach, ride the boardwalk, or make the bread
run. The Fusion and the Cruz are simple recreational bikes, easy
to pass around to a house guest, 3 stem elevations and 2 handlebar rises
refine the feel.

CITI

the curvy
tube styling of the Cruz, the more efficient geometry of the Dynamik, a Candy
Red finish, super fat Schwalbe Big Apple tires (reflective
sidewalls too), disc brakes, and the swept back B37 handlebars. The CITI
is a simple to use single shifter 9 speed urban fun cycle, grab and go!

For keeping things more on the inside,
try the CITI URB14 with the internally geared Rohloff hub. The gear
range of a 27 speed triple on a simple single shifter, Phil BB. The low/no
maintenance spec.

magnesium platform pedals, Dual leg kickstand, mudguards, rack, Arkel Tailpack,

DYNAMIK

DYNAMIK TRAIL |
|
With a steeper seat angle the Dynamik is stand and pedal capable.
The reach is longer with a tall rise bar to eliminate wrist pressure.
Seated climbs are still very effective and stand climbs are only needed
on very steep grades (See: Why They Climb So well!) A great bike on mild
trails, beaches, and general short haul rides where high traction wide
tires are suited.
This Dynamik Trail was very impressive in a desert single track setting,
and the Dynamik Pro exceptional. The seat position maintains
outstanding climbing traction while in the saddle and the front end
maintains line. Click this link for a thorough single track perspective

ZENETIC PRO
ALUMINUM
Rans wanted to apply the Fusion concept to a high performance road bike
and it came out Zenetik. Using the slightly more aggressive frame
geometry of the Dynamik, the Zenetik acts like a road bike with
excessive comfort. Why not go fast and feel good? Decked out in high end
road gear this bike is a delight to carve curves, climb hills , and
simply spend the day jamming to a distance destination.
The featherweight
Zenetic Aluminum. 19 pounds. Refinements in cockpit position can be
worked out to perfection with an Angletech consult. Tall or low stem,
tall or low rise bars, combined to your preferred position. 700/700
wheelset.
A surprisingly fast, fun bike to ride. Allows you to revisit some of the
moves of the old wedgie hanging on the wall without the discomfort that
made you hang it up in the first place.

The Zenetik Pro's sport a carbon fork and carbon spade saddle
with a quick release angle and height adjust.

crank with Phil BB, and a wide range rear cassette to climb the steepest
hills.
Kelvin,
Thought
you might appreciate a little feedback on the Zenetik Pro I
traded you for. In one word, the bike is a blast! It
climbs as fast or faster than my road bike, it really digs when
you pull on the bars and go for it. The bonus is the much
better comfort than a conventional roadie bike. I rode a
25 mile, 12 foot gain ride with a roadie friend Sunday.
Had no trouble staying with him up the hills. On the
downhills, we coasted similarly with me sitting normally and he
with his hands on the tops of the drop bars. If I put my
head down between my bars (not that hard to do, actually) I left
him behind in short order. So the bike coasts great, but
you have to get out of the wind. Obviously, my Corsa would
be faster into wind or downhill. But, everywhere else,
especially on uphills, the Rans is a one speedy machine.
After 3 15 – 25 mile rides, I would have to say that the Rans is
probably my fastest bike over a challenging course of uphills,
corners, and the like. It is also the easiest bike to ride
I think I have ever had. It seems totally natural,
comfortable and very friendly in traffic. Have to be a bit
careful on rough roads as the tires (100-150 lbs inflation it
says on the sidewalls!) are not forgiving of holes and rough
pavement. I think with some more time on the bike, I would
be plenty ready to do a century ride or the like with it.
To make this long story short, I am completely satisfied
(actually thrilled) with the bike.

WHY
THEY CLIMB SO WELL
Almost everyone who
tries a Fusion, Cruz, Dynamik, or Zenetik, makes a comment about the great
climb. What is it about these bikes that enhances climb? The explanation lies in
handlebar and crank placement. With the crank forward more than a conventional
bike and the bars placed low, just above the knees, you can pull yourself
down into the pedals. Using this technique it is easy to apply more than your
weight to the pedals, which is all standing on the pedals will provide. If you
move the crank further aft, or raise the handlebar too high, the effect is
diminished, if not lost. The handlebars must be fairly low, approximately above
the knees in order to affect the
climbing traction. Climbing is not the only place the effect works, starting
from a complete stop, using the bars to dig in, will accelerate the bike nicely.
When you test ride a RANS crank forward design, remember to try the trick of
pulling on the bars to climb or accelerate, be sure the bars are adjusted to the
right height of just above the knees and they are secure!
HARMONY Semi-Recumbent tandem.
In its 5th generation since 1983, the original
alternative tandem design, the Harmony, offers a number of benefits over the
traditional road tandem.

Independent pedal cadence.
The stoker may also choose his or her own pedal
cadence, or stop pedaling if desired. This is accomplished in the gearing at the
Cadence Modulator.
Versatility!
You can ride with any size of adult, or a
KidFrontSystem which accommodates riders down to 4 years old. Special needs
applications work great here with the Handcrank or Hand/Footcrank stoker option.
This means that the Viewpoint will be used more often, and by more people than a
traditional tandem.

The Harmony is such an integrated design, that it is
impossible to separate individual features and say "there, that’s what makes it
tick." Whether it is functional, structural, mechanical, or interpersonal, all
of the features of this cycle work together to give you a great riding
experience.
